You would have to be living under a rock to not know that that the Government has instructed ISPs to block access to Youtube and a bunch of other websites hosting the hate-piece, Fitna. I was taken back a bit by the public reaction, which is nothing short of complete outrage. My initial reaction was pretty much the opposite: I liked the principle of the Government taking a stand against this movie.
Seeing how many have responded, I can see how naive I am, and how dangerous it is to apply principles in a vacuum. This ill-conceived act of censorship only affirms and re-enforces a growing skepticism and mistrust of the Government, reminding everyone of the New Order and Suharto’s suppression of the media.
